Our Story

Progressive Life was initially birthed out of a vision of God in May 1998 under the name Progressive Life in Christ Ministries (PLC), with a godly determination to make a difference in the Hampton Roads area one person at a time in a new and non-conventional manner. The first worship service was held at the Coliseum Quality Inn, Hampton, Virginia, with sixty-three people in attendance. With Kingdom work as its primary focus the membership at PLC consistently grew both physically and spiritually.

In 2002, due the apostolic growth in weekly services, Pastors Lawrence and Dorothy Govan were led to move the services to the Hampton Holiday Inn and license the first set of ministers and deacons.

After nearly seven years without a permanent location, God opened the door in December 2004 for a new location conducive to the ministry flourishing and thriving. We then became Progressive Life Worship Center (PLWC) operating in the Buckroe Beach area of Hampton.

On Sunday, March 6, 2005 the first service was held at the Buckroe location and the mission to “offer a life change through the power of God” began. On April 17, 2005 the first set of elders were ordained and set to assist the congregation.

While in the Buckroe area, PLWC set a standard of excellence in the ministry of helps, apostolic development, evangelism, and outreach in the surrounding community.

Today, the ministry continues its commitment to the advancement and cultivation of God’s people as well as its commitment to reach the lost through the power of God’s love.
